Practice Problem

Please have these problem ready (solved) when you come to the lab?

  1. A 31.1 g of wafer of pure gold initially at 69.3 C is submerged into 64.2 g of water at 27.8 C in an insulated container. What is the final temperature of the system at the thermal equilibrium? (Cs of Gold is 0.128 J/g.C and Cs of H2O is 4.18 J/g.C )
  2. A block of copper of unknown mass has an initial temperature of 65.5 C. The copper is immersed in a beaker containing 95.7 g of water at 22.7 C. When the two substances reach thermal equilibrium, the final temperature is 24.2 C. What is the mass of the copper block? (Cs of Copper is 0.385 J/g.C)
